A+.Where we are, when we're open & what we do! I’m so excited to finally have a local spot I can walk to with great coffee and do some studying. Great selection of Macrina pastries and I hear there will be more food offerings soon! I love the bird mural, and the cozy earthy decor. My soy milk latte was steamed perfectly (hard to do!) and tasted great. They serve Olympia Coffee Roasters, good looking tea, and all sizes from 8 oz. Well, Happy Duo Cafe has filled this missing gap in my life and in UP! And the owner is incredibly friendly, confident about his space, and humble. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I wasn’t too impressed with the last place. I don’t normally make reviews, but I just had to! That’s how much I liked this place! Maybe this is because I grew up in Seattle and was a barista myself for some years - but I had been wondering how there wasn’t a local, solid “home away from home” coffee shop with cozy ample seating for studying or chatting in this area of UP. Parking: free parking outside and in the parking garage below Dietary restrictions: gluten-free options Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Could not recommend it more! Kid-friendliness: Lots of seating space, children are welcomed in with warmth and understanding, hot chocolate and other kid-friendly options. This is possibly the most wholesome coffee shop I've ever encountered and the coffee and food is top notch. No matter how busy, Derek goes the extra mile for every customer. My favorite fact is that he named the cafe Happy Duo in honor of his two sons, who he visibly adores (they sometimes come by to play live music). He has added such an elaborate gift shop to the cafe that adds so much charm and warmth to the atmosphere. Derek is one of the kindest business owners I've met, and consistently pulls hours to help his team thrive. Happy Duo is the location that NEEDS to stay. I've lived in University Place my whole life and seen this location transform into one shop after the next.
